Vegetarianism will be the diet of the future for the vast majority of the worlds’ population.
There are several reasons for this. The number one reason is there will simply be too many people for all of us to consume animal flesh. Right now, as of July 2008 there are approximately 6.684 billion of us on this planet. That is projected to grow to 9 billion by 2042. To think that we can raise meat for these extra people is not realistic thinking.
Most of our meat in the United States is raised under horrible conditions. Cattle are crowded into feedlots with no room to move until they gain enough weight to be slaughtered, living in an unsanitary and cruel environment. Hogs are raised in houses over slat floors crammed together with no room to move. Their manure drops through the spaces in the floor to be pumped into a lagoon, which often pollutes the local environment. And then we kill them. But at least that’s the end of their suffering.
Our slaughterhouses are another issue. They are unsafe dangerous places to work, and many slaughterhouse workers are killed or seriously injured every year. But nobody cares about that because they are illegal aliens and we can always get more of them. Nobody wants to hear the truth but here it is anyway. If you work in a slaughterhouse you are considered expendable. I’m truly sorry about that but that’s just the way it is.
There’s one more reason to consider vegetarianism. Most of us here in the land of opportunity could stand to drop a few pounds. I know I sure could. One of the things that keep most of us above the ideal weight is our consumption of meat. That also clogs our arteries and keeps our cholesterol high and creates job security for the medical profession. If everyone adopted a vegetarian diet those problems would disappear overnight and we would all be healthier.
The last thing is raising grain to feed animals to produce meat for us is inefficient and wasteful. It also produces large qualities of methane gas, which contributes to the greenhouse gas effect. In fact this produces more pollution than automobiles, hard though that may be to believe.
In closing this chapter I’ll give you the following web site to look at if you’re interested in the subject. Click on the following hyper-link www.SupremeMasterTV.com. On the home page click on A Win-Win Situation for the Planet: Go Vegetarian! It’s possible that by the time you read this they will have changed the format. I know just from my limited computer use websites are always changing things around. If that’s the case just check out the site and find whatever you can. The person responsible for that website is Supreme Master Ching Hai.
